You may discover just how much communication shapes what you can achieve.
I believe communication can be a powerful catalyst for change and is capable of solving almost any issue.
Communication begins with first rate listening, questioning and thinking skills.
It continues through practical ones including oration, storytelling, copywriting, content creation and slick editing.
Communication is complete when your audience gets your message, loud and clear, and acts on it.
Add my understanding of these comms rudiments to 26 years of media experience and a naturally creative, analytical, forward-focused mind…
You have PR, crisis comms, creative content and media counsel capable of effecting powerful and positive change for individuals and organisations.
MY favourite jobs are when I work for brilliant professionals who are also brilliant humans.
They’re authentic, accountable and they treat people with fairness and respect. They know good when they see it, envision bright futures and think for the wider group.
But, while brilliant is as brilliant does, they may not be heard, understood or valued by people who can change their fortunes.
Communication can make a difference to how they’re received and perceived, and whether they succeed.
I take pleasure in applying my comms skills to help these brilliant humans communicate their value to others.
COMMS work often draws on the skills of talented creative professionals to carry messages into the public domain.
The course of my work also brings me into contact with talent agents, celebrities, influencers, journalists, heads of marketing and ‘ad’ men.
Occasionally, defamation, entertainment or IP lawyers help me resolve public disputes for clients.
When needed, wardrobe stylists and body language coaches prepare clients for public appearances.
I maintain productive relationships with first-rate professionals in all of these specialisms to help my clients make their mark in public.
"I’ve worked with Jonathan for a number of years across projects. He is a diligent, intelligent, consummate professional who has an immense ability to analyse complex problems well. He possesses insight into a wide range of things and as such I'd trust and recommend without hesitation Jonathan's advice and guidance on precisely how to manage both the press and the public’s reaction to events."
MY communication and observation skills were fine-tuned early in life as an English boy growing up in 80’s Belfast.
It surprised few when I pursued a career in journalism.
A start at my local paper The News Letter preceded a move to the Daily Mirror’s regional offices in Northern Ireland. From there, I moved to the newspaper’s London HQ.
I returned to the Mirror’s NI operation in 2006 before opening a press agency with Sun journalist Patrick Griffin, to sell news and features from Belfast to London, Dublin and local media.
During my career in journalism I reported from Afghanistan, worked undercover, enjoyed a tabloid election drive, interviewed celebrities and covered daily news cycles.
In 2009, I arrived in Manchester to care for an ill relative. Two years later I settled and began working in the city as a PR agent, later setting up Stones PR Ltd.
Today, I provide communications services to winning businesses in Manchester and beyond.
WHEN the pandemic was over I vacated my apparently superfluous office in Media City UK to continue working from home.
My vista changed from imposing BBC and ITV buildings to a lawn in leafy Stockport, but I found I could meet clients’ communication needs just as easily.
Communication networks, media technology and transport ensure I collaborate closely with my clients.
If you like to meet, I travel.
If you like to talk, I take voice and video calls.
